Barcelona is enjoying its best period this season in terms of performance and the impressive results the team is achieving against all its competitors in La Liga and the Champions League.
The Catalan team currently leads the La Liga standings with 33 points, 9 points ahead of its closest rival, Real Madrid, with a postponed match still to be played by Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper “El Nacional”, Hansi Flick has successfully secured an agreement with Jonathan Tah to join Barcelona starting next season.
Tah is considered one of the most attractive prospects in the current transfer market, as his contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires next June, and he has already announced his intention not to renew it. As a result, he has decided to reject all offers made by his German club to extend his contract.
Despite being a key player in Xabi Alonso’s squad and a cornerstone of the defence, playing a vital role in Bayer Leverkusen’s triumphs in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and DFL-Supercup in 2024, Tah believes the time has come to seek a new challenge in his career.
Bayern Munich was the club that showed the most interest last summer, making every effort to sign him, but the move fell through. However, there were hopes that he could be signed in 2025. Now, recent reports suggest that Tah is very close to a move to Camp Nou.
Tah appears to prefer a new experience outside his comfort zone, and the opportunity to join Flick’s project and represent Barcelona seems to be an appealing option for him.
The signing has the full support of president Joan Laporta and Deco, who have quietly started working to ensure that Barcelona remains ahead in the race to sign the player, outpacing other clubs interested in his services.
Barcelona urgently needs to reinforce their defence, especially with Eric Garcia and Inigo Martinez likely to leave in the near future, while Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen’s contracts expire in 2026. Although other clubs may be willing to offer Tah a higher salary than Barcelona, he has given Flick his word and promised to join Barcelona in the near future. Therefore, it seems Bayer Leverkusen will have to accept losing him, while Bayern Munich will also have to abandon their pursuit of the player.
