The competition between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona for deals in recent years shows no signs of ending, and this time, it centers around a world-class player who wants to leave the French team and join the Catalan side.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper “El Nacional”, Fabian Ruiz has decided to end his career at Paris Saint-Germain and is now seeking a new challenge.
The newspaper added that the player has lost his motivation, and his relationship with coach Luis Enrique has deteriorated due to personal issues that arose between them during their time together with the Spanish national team.
Ruiz no longer believes in the Parisian club’s project, especially after the departure of Kylian Mbappé and the failure to sign a new Galactico to replace him.
Additionally, Ruiz has lost his place in Luis Enrique’s squad, especially after the arrival of Joao Neves, who has taken over his position in midfield.
Last summer, he considered leaving but chose to stay at the “Parc des Princes.” However, he has now decided that the time has come to move on. All the while, he has made it clear that his priority is to return to La Liga, where it has been more than six years since he left his home country.
Previously, Ruiz attracted interest from both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, but now it seems that Barcelona is the strongest option. Club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco have shown interest in signing him after his standout performances at the European Championship, which also caught the eye of Spain’s national team coach Luis de la Fuente.
With Frenkie de Jong likely to be sold and Pablo Torre set to leave in search of more playing time, there will be space in Barcelona’s midfield. The Catalan club seems to have Fabian Ruiz on their radar.
He is a player who can add quality and experience to the team, capable of playing in multiple midfield positions. However, Barcelona are not prepared to pay a large sum for a 28-year-old player.
The start of negotiations with PSG has been difficult, as Nasser Al-Khelaifi initially asked for €35 million, a sum considered excessive given the player’s previous stints at Real Betis, Elche, and Napoli. This amount prompted Fabian Ruiz to intervene personally, asking PSG’s management to reduce their demands and facilitate his transfer to Barcelona. Ruiz wants no obstacles in his path and hopes that Luis Enrique and Al-Khelaifi, in a gesture of goodwill, will agree to negotiate with Laporta and Deco for a transfer fee of around €25 million.
