Joao Cancelo’s contract with Al-Hilal’s first football team ends in June 2027, after he joined the club last summer from Manchester City for 25 million euros.
The newspaper reported on the Portuguese Joao Cancelo’s desire to return to Europe through the Catalan club after his stint with Al-Hilal.
Cancelo had spent a season with Barcelona’s first team on loan from City before joining Al-Hilal, but the large salary kept the player away from Barça.
“Pepe always wanted me to go to Real Madrid, but I’m a Barcelona fan, and I was very clear about where I wanted to play,” Cancelo said in a previous statement quoted by the Spanish newspaper. Joao Cancelo, 30, believes he is still capable of playing in Europe, specifically for Barcelona, after his outstanding performances with Al-Hilal and his national team.
