Canadian Jonathan David, the striker for the French team Lille, dealt a strong blow to the German club Bayern Munich, which is actively seeking to sign him in the coming period to be the successor to the Englishman Harry Kane in the coming years.
David’s contract with the French club ends next June, and the player does not intend to sit at the renewal table and sign a new contract with Lille, which means he could leave for free at the end of the current season.
After reports emerged in the past few hours that Bayern is close to securing the player’s signature, Lille may allow him to leave during the winter transfer window in January for a financial consideration, rather than letting him leave for free. Meanwhile, Italian clubs Inter Milan and Juventus are also interested in attracting him. Jonathan David, however, has opened the door wide for Barcelona.
David said in press statements published by the British network “The Athletic” that playing for Barcelona is a dream for him, stressing that he has supported the Catalan club since his early childhood.
The player said, “Barcelona is the team I have supported since I was young, and when you grow up supporting a team, playing for it is a dream.”
“Going to another team in the middle of the season is not easy. It’s not like at the beginning of the season, when you get the chance to know your teammates and have time to adapt,” David added, making the task easier for Barcelona, considering both the financial situation and the possibility of signing him in January.
