Barcelona have already begun their moves in the transfer market to identify a player who could help them overcome the potential departure of Robert Lewandowski at the end of this season.
Despite the Polish striker’s strong start to the season and his excellent performances, which include many goals, his future at the club is not guaranteed. He receives a very high salary, and Barcelona do not want to continue paying him such a large sum. Therefore, Joan Laporta and Deco have pressured him to accept a significant salary reduction.
If Lewandowski refuses, his contract, which ends on June 30, could result in his departure from Camp Nou on a free transfer after three years at the club following his move from Bayern Munich.
On the other hand, Hansi Flick hopes to continue relying on the Polish star for a longer period, as he is convinced Lewandowski can perform at a high level for several more seasons. However, he is also aware that the striker may be forced to leave.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper “El Nacional”, Barcelona has started looking for a suitable replacement for Lewandowski. The club is seeking a highly efficient goal-scorer, similar to Lewandowski, the winner of “The Best” award in 2020.
In this context, some interesting names have emerged, including Erling Braut Haaland, Alexander Isak, and Victor Gyökeres. However, these deals are not simple and would require significant investments.
As a result, Barcelona has begun exploring other options that are more financially viable. One such option is Jonathan David, who has been a target for several major clubs in recent months but is still playing for Lille in France.
Although David has hinted that his final months with the team are approaching, confirming that he plans to leave soon and take advantage of the fact that he will be free in the upcoming summer transfer window, he has not shown any interest in renewing his contract.
David has been linked with a number of clubs, including Barcelona, where both Deco and Flick have expressed admiration for his abilities. The Canadian forward is having an excellent season, with eight goals and two assists so far, and could be the ideal choice to replace Lewandowski if he departs.
