Atletico Madrid could be on the verge of signing the new Barcelona star, a move similar to those involving big players like Luis Suarez, David Villa, and Antoine Griezmann, who joined the team at a high cost and became crucial elements in Diego Simeone’s squads.
This move was recently repeated with Memphis Depay, although it did not work out as expected, as well as with Clement Lenglet, who has now become a key player, and the team hopes to keep him permanently in 2025.
But in this case, according to information from the newspaper “El Nacional”, Atletico Madrid are focusing on Fermín López, who has attracted the team’s interest due to his great ability to work and position himself inside the opponents’ area, making him a perfect fit for the philosophy of the Argentine coach.
Last season, López was one of the most prominent stars in La Liga and in Europe, becoming an indispensable element in Xavi Hernandez’s squads.
However, things changed radically with the arrival of Hansi Flick as coach of Barcelona, in addition to the signing of Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig. The 21-year-old forward’s role has been significantly reduced, with him only playing ineffective matches, which threatens his development if he continues at Camp Nou.
With his position unclear, especially with the possibility of Barcelona signing new midfielders next summer, Fermín has begun to consider leaving the team. Despite renewing his contract a few weeks ago after reaching an agreement with Joan Laporta and Deco, the player does not want to remain a mere substitute.
Fermín has already received offers from top clubs such as Juventus, Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa. In this context, Atlético Madrid have entered the race to sign him, with Simeone hoping to convince the Spaniard to move to the Spanish capital next year.
