Barcelona continues to closely monitor the situation of German star Joshua Kimmich, as his contract with Bayern Munich approaches its expiration at the end of the current season.
The 29-year-old has not yet decided whether he will extend his stay with the Bavarian club, according to Sky Sports, which reported that Bayern has given him a deadline to respond by January.
Despite Marc Casado’s impressive performances in the same position, Kimmich, who can also play as a right-back, remains a target for the Catalan club and its technical director, Hansi Flick, who previously managed Kimmich at Bayern Munich.
The current Barcelona squad boasts a very young midfield with a promising future, but the addition of Kimmich would provide the experience it has occasionally lacked in certain matches to maintain results.
Although Kimmich has regained his key role in the team under coach Vincent Kompany, the offer from Bayern, which still includes a request for a salary reduction, has not convinced him, according to the Catalan newspaper “Sport”. It seems that he is now open to considering other offers.
Barcelona had previously expressed interest in signing Kimmich when Xavi Hernandez was in charge over the past two seasons.
According to a report published by “Football Spain”, Bayern Munich is currently working to convince Kimmich to renew his contract in the coming days. If these efforts fail, the club may be forced to sell him during the winter transfer window to avoid losing him for free.
The report also indicated that Barcelona is one of the clubs closely monitoring Kimmich’s situation, especially since the player has a strong relationship with his former coach at Bayern Munich, Hansi Flick, who is now the head coach of the Blaugrana.
