Joan Laporta has an ambitious strategy to strengthen the Barcelona squad in the upcoming winter transfer market.
Thanks to the activation of a new economic lever, the club president has secured financial liquidity that will allow him to move more freely in January, with a focus on closing three strategic deals to strengthen the team in the most needed positions. The priorities include signings for the left and right-back positions, as well as a striker capable of making a difference in the second half of the season.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper “El Nacional”, after a period of financial challenges that put Barcelona in a cautious position, this economic move has changed the situation.
Laporta and his management team worked to secure an agreement that guarantees the registration of current players such as Dani Olmo, while simultaneously opening the way to strengthen the team with high-quality players. The list of names being circulated includes several interesting options.
At left-back, the list of options is headed by Álvaro Carreras, a talented youngster who has shone with Benfica. Carreras is a strong addition who could complement Alejandro Balde’s role in defense, giving coach Hansi Flick more options to distribute minutes to his players in a season full of matches. At right-back, the focus has been on Rayo Vallecano’s Ratiu, who has proven his defensive talent and ability to contribute to the attack. With Jules Koundé only available for that position, Ratiu seems to be the ideal option to reinforce this side.
In attack, the club’s list of big names includes Rafael Leão and Joshua Kimmich. Although signing either of them would be a huge deal, Laporta is confident that the new financial liquidity will allow the club to compete for at least one of these players. Milan’s Leão would be an ideal addition to the attack thanks to his speed, dribbling skills, and goalscoring ability, while Kimmich is a versatile player and an expert in midfield, which would raise the team’s competitive level.
Barcelona have already made initial contact with the representatives of these two players, although competition for their services will be fierce, especially with interest from other European clubs.
However, Laporta is determined to send a strong message in the transfer market and return Barça to the elite, both in sporting and institutional terms. The countdown to the winter transfer market has begun, which is a source of optimism in the club’s atmosphere.
