Barcelona are looking to strengthen their ranks in the upcoming transfer market, amidst much speculation about signing a big star in midfield.
However, the club is facing some internal challenges regarding this deal, as several players in the team do not see this signing as necessary at the present time.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper “El Nacional”, Pedri Gonzalez, along with a number of his Barcelona teammates, is continuing to work with Deco to convince the club’s management to ignore the potential signing of Bayern Munich player Joshua Kimmich, who remains one of the club’s main targets. Kimmich, who has not renewed his contract with Bayern Munich, which expires on June 30, seems likely to leave the team at the end of the current season.
There are many clubs interested in signing him, including Real Madrid, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Arsenal, and Manchester City. However, Hansi Flick, the former Bayern Munich coach, is confident in his ability to convince his pupil to move to Camp Nou.
Many Barcelona stars do not see the signing of Kimmich as a necessity for the team. Among them are Pedri, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Lamine Yamal, Alejandro Balde, and Pau Coparsi, who have expressed their opposition to the deal.
There is an implicit agreement on the need to keep another young player, Marc Casado, who has become one of the most exciting discoveries of the season in European football. Casado has been performing exceptionally well in midfield, filling the gaps that emerged after the departure of Sergio Busquets.
With Casado’s performances constantly improving, it has become clear that signing Kimmich is no longer a necessary option. Pedri and his teammates believe that this idea is just a whim from Flick, which the club can do without entirely. Additionally, signing Kimmich would mean a wage increase, which does not match the current needs of the team.
On the other hand, Barcelona still have another promising midfielder, Marc Bernal, who is considered one of the most promising emerging talents from the La Masia academy. Bernal is currently recovering from a knee injury he suffered last September, but he is expected to return to the pitch soon and become a strong addition to the team.
