Press reports revealed that Barcelona’s first-team star wants to join one of the English Premier League clubs in the near future.
Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona’s star midfielder, was previously linked with the possibility of joining Manchester United during the tenure of Dutchman Erik ten Hag, the former coach of the Red Devils.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper “El Nacional,” Frenkie de Jong has begun to seriously consider accepting a move to Manchester United in the near future.
The Spanish newspaper added that the Dutch player is suffering from a lack of playing time under Hansi Flick, the coach of the Catalan team, and he wants more minutes on the field, which he believes he would get at the English club.
The report further stated that talks about his future will progress in the coming days with Barcelona, and everything indicates new developments regarding his future before the end of the January transfer window.
If De Jong leaves, Barcelona will certainly be able to register Dani Olmo for the second half of the season, with a lower salary cap.
Frenkie admitted in press statements published by the Spanish newspaper “Sport”, saying, “I never imagined that I would win the Spanish League title once when I signed for Barcelona. I have to admit that. We won La Liga once, the Cup once, and the Spanish Super Cup once.”
Frenkie added, “I expected to win at least two titles with Barcelona each season, but what happened has disappointed me. There are things that happen that cannot be predicted at all.”
