Spanish newspaper “Marca” revealed that there was tension between Joan Laporta, Barcelona’s president, and Brazilian winger Rafinha Diaz during the team’s time in Saudi Arabia.
It is worth noting that Barcelona managed to return from Saudi Arabia with the Spanish Super Cup title after defeating Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals and thrashing Real Madrid with a 5-0 scoreline in the final.
The Madrid newspaper reported that Rafinha spoke with the club president before the training session that preceded the Athletic Bilbao match. The conversation lasted for more than a minute and was characterized by tension, according to “Marca”.
Rafinha had mentioned that it was difficult for Olmo and Pau Victor, from his perspective as a player, stating that if he were not a Barcelona player, he would have seriously considered whether to sign for the club under such circumstances.
The newspaper also reported that Laporta made a secret decision to listen to offers for the Brazilian player, preparing for his potential departure next summer.
Additionally, the newspaper stated that German coach Xavi threatened Barcelona’s management and Laporta, insisting that Rafinha is untouchable. He warned that any thought of selling him in the future would result in the German coach’s departure from the club.
