The arrival of Alphonso Davies to Real Madrid would have been a significant boost to the team, as the Canadian full-back is regarded as one of the best in his position worldwide and has the potential to become the team’s first-choice left-back.

According to information from the Spanish newspaper “Defensa Central”, had Davies joined Real Madrid, he would likely have been an undisputed starter.
This situation led Ferland Mendy to hope that the deal would fall through, particularly since he recently renewed his contract until June 30, 2027, and does not want to be relegated to a substitute role or leave the club. Mendy aspires to continue making history with the best club in the world, but he admits that his current performances have not been at his usual level.

Mendy is fully aware that his form this season has not met the standards expected by Real Madrid. He is far from his best physical condition, struggles with decision-making, and has lacked focus in matches. It’s likely that the potential signing of Davies has played a role in Mendy’s thoughts over the past few months.

On the other hand, Carlo Ancelotti remains confident that Mendy and Fran Garcia can perform well at left-back for Real Madrid. Although both players are not currently at their best, the Italian coach believes they will return to top form in the coming weeks. He particularly hopes Mendy will regain his best level soon, as he was a key figure in the team’s back-to-back Champions League victories.

It is crucial that both players remain motivated and fight for a starting spot. This competitive environment will be essential for them to reach their best performances, something that has yet to be seen this season.
As for the signing of a new left-back, according to Mario Cortegana, Real Madrid is not considering any moves for a left-back at this time after the Davies deal fell through.

The club had seen Davies as a tremendous market opportunity, but now that the deal is off, there is no immediate need to sign a replacement. With Fran Garcia’s new contract extending until 2027 and Mendy’s recent renewal for the same period, the arrival of Davies would have meant one of them would have had to leave. Fortunately, with the deal collapsing, neither player will need to depart.
