Barcelona continues to search for options to strengthen its attack next season. In addition to securing Robert Lewandowski’s contract until 2026, the club is looking to sign a young striker with great potential, one capable of learning from the Polish player for one year and taking over in the long term.
In this context, according to information reported by the Spanish newspaper “El Nacional”, the name of Benjamin Šeško, the 21-year-old Slovenian RB Leipzig striker, has emerged. He has offered himself to Barcelona as an option for both the present and the future.
Šeško possesses the qualities of an ideal player for coach Hansi Flick’s style of play. His height of 1.95 meters, in addition to his ability to play with his back to goal and his smooth movement, make him a complete striker. Despite his great height, he is not a static forward, instead showing good movement on the field, excelling in aerial play and having the ability to exploit spaces.
Flick is well aware of Šeško’s potential, having closely followed him when he was playing for Red Bull Salzburg, where he impressed with his goalscoring ability before moving to the Bundesliga.
It will not be easy for RB Leipzig to part with their striker, as his contract with the club runs until 2028. Šeško’s release clause is around €60 million, a considerable amount given Barcelona’s financial situation. However, a deal cannot be ruled out if the club manages to complete some significant sales during the summer.
Barcelona is seriously considering investing this sum in a young striker who could make history at the club. Šeško’s intention to wear the Blaugrana shirt and his willingness to compete with Lewandowski for one season increase the chances of completing the deal.
Before signing Šeško, Deco and Barcelona’s sporting directors must finalize some exit deals that will allow the club to finance the striker’s signing. These deals could involve the transfer of players such as Ferran Torres or even Frenkie de Jong if substantial offers come in. These sales would create the financial space necessary to complete the deal.
Although the deal is not impossible, it will depend largely on market movements in the coming months. What is clear is that Šeško would like to play for Barcelona, and that Flick supports the signing. Now, the ball is in the court of Laporta and Deco, who will need to decide whether to make the economic effort to bring in the striker expected to be Lewandowski’s successor at Camp Nou.
