Flick publicly admits his huge mistake regarding his request for a Barcelona star’s departure and asked Deco to stop the player’s exit at the last moments of the previous transfer window

Hansi Flick has admitted without hesitation that he made a mistake regarding the Barcelona player he wanted to get rid of last January.

Flick had justified this by claiming that there was no place for this player in his plans and that he did not have the required level to be part of the team.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper “El Nacional,” one of the first confirmed sales was that of Eric Garcia, who had completely lost his place in the starting lineup.

Although he participated in many matches due to injuries that hit the team, once all the injured players returned, Eric Garcia disappeared completely from the calculations. He was not helped by some physical problems that kept him off the pitch for periods. On the other hand, Joan Laporta and Deco played an important role in searching for a club to buy the Spanish international, who had been included on the transfer list.

With defenders like Ronald Araujo, Iñigo Martínez, and Pau Coparsi closing in on him, and Andreas Christensen returning in an advanced stage of his recovery, his options at centre-back were limited.

He also couldn’t find a place in midfield, with players like Frenkie de Jong, Marc Casado, Gavi, and Pedri González in the mix. Things could have been tough for Eric at Camp Nou, with a strong offer coming in from Girona, where he had played on loan last season.

Fortunately, injuries to defenders like the Danish Christensen, the Basque Iñigo Martínez, and the Uruguayan Araujo allowed Eric to get new opportunities in defence. He has taken advantage of those opportunities to show a strong and consistent level, which has made Flick admire his recent performances with the team. This performance was enough to improve his status and make him a key part of the squad, prompting Flick to decide that he would rely on him in the future. This means that the intention to sell him at the present time has been cancelled.

If Barcelona were to sell a defender at this time, Flick would clearly prefer that Christensen be the one to leave due to his ongoing problems that have kept him out of matches since joining.
Accordingly, despite the possible offers that may reach Eric Garcia, Flick has asked Deco and Laporta not to consider any offers for him at present, confirming his complete confidence in the player and his continued reliance on him in the coming period.
