Barcelona and Atlético Madrid drew 4-4 in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals, in a match that revealed Barcelona’s urgent need to sign two top-level full-backs if they want to compete strongly for titles.
Diego Simeone, coach of Atlético Madrid, has asked the club’s management to sign one of Barcelona’s targets in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Barça tops the Spanish league table with 54 points, while Atlético Madrid is third with 53 points.
According to information from the “Diario Gol” website, Atlético Madrid has entered into strong competition with Barcelona to sign Álvaro Carreras, the Benfica player who previously played for Real Madrid.
The website indicated that the deal could be worth 50 million euros, which is the amount required to activate the release clause in the player’s contract, a fee that could prevent Barcelona from pursuing the transfer due to the financial constraints the club is facing.
Carreras has played 37 matches with Benfica this season, scoring 3 goals and providing 5 assists.
