Barcelona is enjoying a fantastic season on all fronts and is fighting hard in the final part of the season to win every possible title. The Catalan team tops the La Liga standings, has an exciting Champions League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund, and is still alive in the Copa del Rey.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper ‘‘El Nacional‘‘, Barcelona appears to have already begun seriously considering signing Nuno Mendes, the Paris Saint-Germain left-back. Joan Laporta and Deco see him as a great option to strengthen this position, which has been plagued by problems this season due to Alejandro Balde’s inconsistent performances and recurring injuries. These issues have made Nuno Mendes a top priority for Barcelona in this position.
Nuno Mendes, who had a poor relationship with his coach Luis Enrique at Paris Saint-Germain, is keen on a change of scenery after three years at the Parc des Princes, making a move to La Liga an attractive option for him. The biggest problem, however, is that Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi will not make negotiations easy, demanding a minimum of €50 million for him to leave.
This amount is considered too high for Barcelona at the moment, especially since the club does not consider signing Mendes a top priority. Therefore, Barcelona is planning to explore ways to reduce the cost of the deal, and possibly even acquire the player for free. One idea that has been suggested is to include Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen as part of the deal. Christensen, who lost his starting spot in the team after the dismissal of Xavi Hernandez, has not yet received a contract renewal offer, which could open the door to his departure.
Christensen, who has suffered two injuries that have kept him out of action this season, is no longer part of coach Hansi Flick’s plans, and Barcelona is expected to seek to sell him before he leaves for free in 2026. For this reason, the club is considering offering him to Paris Saint-Germain in a swap deal that includes Nuno Mendes.
Barcelona’s plan is to make an offer of €15 million plus Christensen for Nuno Mendes. This would be an enticing proposition for Paris Saint-Germain, who could see Christensen as a useful player to strengthen their defense. Al-Khelaifi and Luis Enrique will need to carefully consider this possibility, especially since Christensen has valuable experience in the English Premier League and European competitions.
