Press reports have revealed the player whom Barcelona coach Hansi Flick asked to leave the Catalan club during the last winter transfer window. Reports indicated that Flick asked Spanish striker Ansu Fati to leave Barcelona during a meeting they held last January.

According to information from the Catalan newspaper ‘‘Mundo Deportivo‘‘, the Barcelona coach tried to get rid of Fati during the last winter transfer window and told him face-to-face that he was not considering him. The newspaper indicated that Flick assured Fati he would not be part of his plans for the rest of the season and advised him to look for a new club that would offer him more playing time to regain his form.

The newspaper reported that the Spaniard, despite this, ignored his coach’s advice and continued with the team, rejecting all offers that came for him. The newspaper also added that Fati represents a financial burden for Barcelona, as he has an upwardly mobile contract worth €6 million in the first year, rising to €8 million, €10 million, €12 million, and €14 million, making him one of the highest-paid players in the current squad.

The young winger renewed his contract with Barcelona in 2021, extending it until 2027. Barcelona needs to offload the team’s huge salaries in light of the economic crisis the Spanish club is suffering from.

The newspaper concluded by explaining that Fati has rejected up to four offers, one of which was from Turkish club Besiktas, despite having played only 187 minutes this season.
