Barcelona settled for a 1-1 draw with Real Betis after the match ended with that scoreline, as part of the Spanish La Liga competition.
Following the draw, Barcelona’s points tally increased to 67, keeping them at the top of the La Liga standings, 4 points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid.
Barcelona will play their next match against Leganés away on April 12, while Real Betis will face Villarreal at Benito Villamarín on April 13.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper ‘‘El Nacional‘‘, Hansi Flick is extremely upset by the draw against Real Betis and the team’s failure to capitalize on Real Madrid’s loss, missing the opportunity to extend the points gap at the top of the table.
The newspaper also reported that Hansi Flick is particularly frustrated with Barcelona’s star, Lamine Yamal, following tonight’s match. He holds him responsible for the dropped points due to missing several easy chances on goal and excessive dribbling.
The German coach was in an unprecedented state of anger towards Yamal and spoke to him immediately after the team entered the locker room, telling him: “At this level, we’ll hand the title to Real Madrid, I don’t want to see this performance from you again.”
Not stopping there, Flick also directed his anger at the team’s duo, Alejandro Balde and Jules Koundé, due to their poor performances in tonight’s match. He warned them of being excluded from the starting lineup if they continue performing at this level.
The duo were the weakest players during the match and unexpectedly helped Real Betis secure a draw at Montjuïc, as they failed to contribute adequately, both defensively and offensively.
In an unexpected turn of events, Barcelona president Joan Laporta entered the locker room and spoke with Flick, holding him responsible for the draw. Laporta was angry about Flick’s decision to substitute the duo Pedri and Frenkie de Jong, considering their exit from the match as a sign of the team’s lack of intent to win, and warned Flick not to repeat this mistake again.
Laporta did not stop there and questioned Flick about why Robert Lewandowski played the entire match without being substituted, while the dynamic and in-form Ferran Torres was taken off.
