The Champions League is now a thing of the past for Real Madrid, and it’s time to shift full focus to the battle for the La Liga and Copa del Rey titles, two competitions that will be decided before the Club World Cup.
In this intense race with Barcelona, Carlo Ancelotti’s players know that the road ahead will not be easy, especially after Javier Tebas’s recent decision, which does not serve the club’s best interests.
La Liga announced in the past few hours an amendment to the match schedule for Round 34. Barcelona will face Real Valladolid on Saturday, May 3, at 9:00 PM, while Real Madrid will play Celta Vigo the following day, Sunday, at 2:00 PM.
This change has angered Real Madrid fans, particularly because La Liga decided to grant Barcelona additional time to prepare for their Champions League fixture, while Real Madrid was not given similar consideration when they requested to reschedule their match ahead of the second leg against Arsenal in the European quarterfinals.
Carlo Ancelotti commented on the matter, saying: “We don’t understand it, but this is the reality. We have more than 72 hours of rest, so we can’t complain.”
To support their European campaign, Barcelona will play the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan on April 30 at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, with the second leg taking place on May 6 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.
