Real Madrid suffered a major blow ahead of their highly anticipated Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on Saturday at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti announced the absence of two first-team players ahead of the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona next Saturday.
Ancelotti led Real Madrid to a valuable 1–0 victory over Getafe, bringing the club’s points tally to 72 and placing them second in the standings.
According to the Spanish newspaper ‘‘Defensa Central‘‘, Real Madrid will be without Eduardo Camavinga for the final after he sustained an injury in the 85th minute of Wednesday’s La Liga match against Getafe.
The newspaper reported that Camavinga suffered a torn groin and will certainly miss El Clásico. This is a major blow to Ancelotti’s plans, as he had intended to start him at left-back. Camavinga attempted to continue playing despite the injury but collapsed less than a minute after the match resumed. This angered Ancelotti, who shouted at the team doctor for not removing him from the field earlier.
The report noted that Camavinga himself refused to leave his team with ten men, as all substitutions had already been used at that critical moment of the match, before eventually giving in.
The newspaper concluded that Austrian defender David Alaba is also certain to miss the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona after suffering a muscle injury in the same match against Getafe.
