Barcelona is preparing for a crucial match against rivals Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final. German coach Hansi Flick hopes to tighten the noose on Real Madrid and defeat them for the third consecutive time.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper ‘‘El Nacional‘‘, Fermín López has been one of Barcelona’s standout players in recent weeks, with his impressive performances leaving a strong impression on Hansi Flick. He has taken advantage of every opportunity presented to him, proving himself to be a top-class player capable of shining in any team in the world. However, intense competition for his position has prevented him from achieving greater consistency.
Whenever Fermín has appeared on the pitch, he has demonstrated his exceptional skills particularly his movement within the penalty area and his ability to make an impact, alongside his excellent defensive work and relentless pressing. In the Champions League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund, López was one of the standout performers, contributing a decisive moment in the second leg with a cross that led to Ramy Bensebaini’s own goal. That goal secured Barcelona’s place in the semi-finals and spared them further complications. Prior to that, he played a crucial role in the team’s qualification for the Copa del Rey final, delivering a standout performance in the victory over Atlético Madrid. This solidified his position in the squad and validated Flick’s decision to favor him over Pablo Páez “Gavi.”
Despite his excellent form, Fermín is not entirely at ease. There are lingering doubts over whether Flick might opt for other players such as Gavi or Dani Olmo, who has recently returned from a muscle injury to start against Real Madrid so soon. Such a decision would likely frustrate López, who believes there is no valid reason for him to be left out of the starting eleven.
If that happens, he will not hesitate to express his discontent to Joan Laporta and Deco, and he may even consider leaving Barcelona if his role continues to be limited.
Fermín would have no trouble finding a new club, having received offers from several of Europe’s biggest teams in recent months. If he does not receive Flick’s backing for the upcoming match against Real Madrid, it could spark tension within the Barcelona dressing room and ignite a potential crisis within the team.
