FC Barcelona is currently experiencing a delicate phase within the dressing room, with the primary cause of the tension being Lamine Yamal, the young talent who is only 17 years old and is beginning to establish himself as a key figure in the club’s future sporting project. Despite widespread admiration for his talent, his situation has sparked internal tensions that are now worrying Barcelona’s management.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper ‘‘El Nacional‘‘, Lamine Yamal is not yet among the ten highest-paid players in the team. This is due to his age, as he will turn 18 on July 13. Until then, the Catalan winger continues to play under a preliminary contract, while his full professional contract, which is officially managed by his agent Jorge Mendes, will only take effect when he reaches the age limit.
Currently, Yamal earns an annual salary of approximately 3 million euros, which is modest compared to the salaries of other top players. However, sources close to the sporting department, led by Deco and president Joan Laporta, confirm that an agreement has already been reached for a five-year contract renewal. This renewal includes a significant salary increase, which would place him among the club’s highest-paid players.
Journalist Miguel Rico reports, “The agreement has been officially signed. Everything is settled, and there is no need for Mendes’ intervention. Barcelona just has to determine Lamine’s new salary in accordance with his performances, which have placed him at the forefront of the team.” He added, “The five-year renewal has been agreed upon, and no obstacles are expected.”
If the deal goes through, Lamine Yamal’s new salary is likely to exceed €35-40 million per year, surpassing that of Robert Lewandowski, who is currently the highest-paid player in the team. This situation is beginning to generate discontent within the dressing room, particularly among some of the veteran players, who feel the amount is excessive given that Yamal has yet to fully establish himself in the long term.
Some prominent members of the squad feel that there is an imbalance in the salary structure and management’s appreciation, questioning whether such preferential treatment is justified for a player still at the beginning stages of his career. However, a number of other players acknowledge Yamal’s exceptional talent and consider him an indispensable part of the club’s future.
