This summer is expected to be the busiest in a decade for Real Madrid in terms of both departures and arrivals, following a season plagued by injuries—particularly in defense. As a result, the club is considering several changes.
Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso is reportedly interested in bringing defender Jonathan Tah to Real Madrid, should he succeed Carlo Ancelotti as head coach.
The 29-year-old’s potential move to Barcelona is now in jeopardy, despite the Catalan club’s intention to sign the Bayer Leverkusen center-back, whose contract expires on June 30.
Tah is set to arrive at Barcelona on a free transfer, but several rivals have emerged to challenge the deal for the German international, even though a prior agreement exists between the player and Barcelona.
Barcelona has yet to finalize the signing due to Financial Fair Play constraints. Taking advantage of this delay, multiple clubs are attempting to hijack the deal.
Real Madrid urgently needs to reinforce its defense. David Alaba and Éder Militão have both spent most of the season sidelined with injuries. Alonso, who hails from Tolosa, is keen to bring Tah with him if he takes over at the Bernabéu.
In addition to Real Madrid, Manchester United has entered the race, while Bayern Munich has also renewed its interest in Tah after failing to sign him last summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.
