Real Madrid is preparing for a crucial and decisive match in La Liga as it visits its wounded rival, Barcelona, who were eliminated from the Champions League by Inter Milan in a harsh scenario.
In a separate development, press reports revealed the first casualty in Real Madrid’s first-team squad after the arrival of coach Xabi Alonso, who replaced Italian Carlo Ancelotti.
Xabi Alonso has decided to take over as Real Madrid’s coach starting next season, not during the Club World Cup, which will be held from June 14 to July 13.
According to reports, Alonso, the leading candidate to coach Real Madrid in the 2025-2026 season, has already started outlining his future squad, despite the lack of an official announcement regarding his appointment.
The reports added that among his early technical decisions, Alonso has expressed a preference for Spaniard Fran Garcia over Frenchman Ferland Mendy at left-back, citing Garcia’s attacking capabilities, which align with his intended style of play. The newspaper explained that Mendy is more suited as an additional defensive option, and the latter may leave if a new left-back is signed. While the issue of signing a new full-back remains open, Alonso’s vision for the royal team is gradually becoming clearer.
