Big matches are highly popular with football fans as well as club management, and tonight’s Barcelona vs. Real Madrid clash will be crucial in determining whether a Real Madrid player stays or leaves.

The two arch-rivals will meet today, Sunday, at 5:15 PM Cairo and Mecca time, at Montjuïc Stadium, in the 35th round of the Spanish League.

According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, the future of left-back Fran García at Real Madrid may largely depend on his performance against young star Lamine Yamal in today’s La Liga Clásico at Montjuïc.

The newspaper explained that García has a rare opportunity to prove his worth this time, especially as he is set to start the match due to the absence of any available alternatives in his position. This contrasts with the Spanish Super Cup final, when he was unexpectedly brought on after Ferland Mendy sustained an injury.

The report added that despite the difficulty of being thrown into the match at that moment, Fran managed to keep up with Lamine—one of the most prominent emerging talents in football—and delivered an increasingly confident performance that allowed him to prove himself both defensively and offensively.

Since returning to Real Madrid in the summer of 2023, Fran García has played 75 matches but has yet to earn the full trust of coach Carlo Ancelotti. Despite appearing in 43 matches this season, he has remained a secondary option.

With Xabi Alonso expected to take over as head coach next season, the Montjuïc clash could prove a decisive turning point in García’s future—especially since Alonso knows him well from their time at Bayer Leverkusen, the club that previously attempted to sign him.
