Amid a difficult economic climate and an urgent need to generate revenue to make an impact in the summer transfer market, Joan Laporta and FC Barcelona appear to have found an unlikely ally: Manchester United. The English club, which still hopes to qualify for the Champions League via the Europa League final against Tottenham, is closely monitoring two deals that could bring Barcelona more than €50 million.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, the first—and most valuable—deal is the potential sale of Uruguayan defender Ronald Araújo. Despite a recent dip in form, particularly following his controversial performance in the Champions League elimination match against Inter, Araújo still holds a strong reputation in the Premier League. Reports suggest that Manchester United views him as an ideal candidate to strengthen their defense, thanks to his pace, solidity, and experience.
Barcelona, for its part, is aiming to reduce its wage bill and secure immediate liquidity. Although sporting director Deco values Araújo at €60 million, the Catalan club is reportedly willing to accept a slightly lower offer, particularly if it is in the form of a full cash payment. Sources close to the negotiations indicate that Manchester United is preparing to submit an offer in the region of €50 million, which could provide Barcelona with the financial flexibility to reinforce other key positions.
