Real Madrid continues its efforts to rebuild its squad for next season under Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, following a season that ended without results in all competitions under Italian Carlo Ancelotti.
Real Madrid aims to appease its fans after a disappointing season by making further signings that will enhance the team’s quality and help it return to the top.
The Spanish club is already making serious efforts to sign Álvaro Carreras, the left-back from Portuguese club Benfica, in an attempt to reach an agreement to bring him to the Santiago Bernabéu next summer.
Real Madrid wants to finalize an agreement with Benfica and the player to secure his move to the Santiago Bernabéu as soon as possible, so he can participate with Los Blancos in the Club World Cup in the United States.
The Spanish newspaper Marca has reported that Carreras would fit into the plans of new coach Alonso at Real Madrid, so the Merengues will not stop until the player agrees to personal terms and Benfica agrees to release his transfer license. Carreras is currently under contract with Benfica with a release clause of €50 million, but Real Madrid has no intention of paying the full amount and will seek to reduce it through negotiations with the Portuguese club.
