Real Madrid continues its efforts to complete signings ahead of the Club World Cup. Following the official announcement of the Huyssen deal and reports of negotiations for Arnold, the club is currently focusing on strengthening the left-back position, specifically targeting Álvaro Carreras.

The former Real Madrid youth player, who stood out during his time with the club’s academy, has been identified as a reinforcement for this position, and negotiations to sign him are already underway. However, his current club, Benfica, does not appear willing to let him go easily, pointing to his €50 million release clause—a figure Real Madrid is looking to reduce in ongoing talks.

According to information from the Spanish newspaper Defensa Central, an unexpected development has emerged that could benefit Real Madrid. Manchester United, which sold the player to Benfica last summer, retained a buy-back clause valued at €18 million. Reports suggest that United is considering activating this clause and then selling the player to Real Madrid for around €35 million. This would allow the Spanish club to secure a significant discount on the transfer while also providing financial profit for the English side.

However, this scenario does not appear to be favored by Carreras himself, according to journalist Ramon de Mon. The young defender has expressed deep appreciation for Benfica and prefers that negotiations take place directly with the Portuguese club to ensure they receive maximum financial benefit.

Real Madrid, for its part, has already finalized the signing of Huyssen, who will officially join the squad on June 1, potentially enabling him to participate in the Club World Cup to support the team. The club reportedly hopes to replicate this approach with Arnold, as talks with Liverpool are currently ongoing.

As a result, no decision regarding Carreras’s future is expected before May 25. Moreover, Benfica has also qualified for the Club World Cup, which could lead them to resist losing the player before the tournament concludes.
