As the summer transfer window approaches, Real Madrid finds itself in a period of anticipation and caution, especially given the uncertainty surrounding the future of its Brazilian star, Vinicius Junior. With growing interest from top European clubs and his rising market value, Los Blancos’ management has begun assessing options in case they lose one of their key attacking assets.
Florentino Pérez and his administration are targeting a player who combines technical skill, speed, and decisiveness, aiming to fill the void that could be left by the Brazilian forward. One of the names on their radar is Portuguese star Rafael Leão, currently playing for AC Milan.
The interest in Leão has grown due to the lack of clarity around Vinicius Junior’s future, in addition to the increasing possibility that he could leave the Spanish capital.
Real Madrid already has a strong Portuguese legacy, especially with Cristiano Ronaldo—Leão’s international teammate—which adds to the club’s appeal for Portuguese talents.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Leão is being seriously considered by the club’s hierarchy as a potential replacement for Vinicius.
The report describes Leão as an ideal fit for Real Madrid’s system, since he combines pace with the ability to make a difference in one-on-one situations. The club’s management believes that the Portuguese forward could provide an immediate boost in quality to the squad, although his signing would come at a significant financial cost.
At 25, Leão is at the peak of his powers and thrives in the left-wing role. His contract with AC Milan runs until June 2028. Since joining Milan from French club Lille in 2020, he has made 253 appearances across all competitions, scoring 68 goals and providing 54 assists.
