While Real Madrid continues to strengthen its squad for next season, finalizing new signings such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Álvaro Carreras, negotiations of a different kind have emerged behind the scenes regarding the possible departure of one of the team’s young pillars: Eduardo Camavinga.
Although the French player has not had his best season this year due to a series of injuries, he continues to attract widespread interest from elite European clubs. According to Defensa Central, Italian club Inter Milan has expressed clear interest in signing Camavinga, submitting an initial offer estimated at around €35 million.
However, the surprise came from Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, who initially agreed to discuss the deal but stipulated only one condition: the signing of Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni in a swap deal. Bastoni is one of Inter Milan’s most prominent defenders and is viewed in Madrid as an ideal option to bolster the backline, while many consider him one of Barcelona’s recent “defensive nightmares” in European competition. Camavinga’s contract with Real Madrid runs until June 2029 and includes a hefty €1 billion release clause, reflecting the club’s confidence in his future potential despite the injuries he has suffered this season. It appears that Pérez will only accept his departure if the technical compensation matches the player’s long-term value, which would be possible if they sign 25-year-old Bastoni, who is seen as a future defensive pillar.
Inter, on the other hand, realizes that an offer of €35 million is not enough to convince Real Madrid’s management, especially since the club paid close to that amount when they signed Camavinga from Rennes in 2021, when he was just 18 years old. Xabi Alonso, the incoming coach, does not seem inclined to let the player go easily, particularly if the deal does not include a quality player like Bastoni.
It’s worth noting that Camavinga’s current season ended prematurely after suffering a torn left adductor tendon during Real Madrid’s match against Getafe. He will be out of action for a period that could extend up to three months. He also suffered recurring muscle injuries in December and January, which affected his regular participation throughout the season.
With all these developments, fans at the Santiago Bernabéu are eagerly awaiting the outcome of these discussions in the coming weeks, aware that any decision regarding Camavinga must balance the current and future interests of the team — a position that Pérez appears adept at managing, placing a heavyweight defensive player on the table who could be the deciding factor in this complex matter.
