An unforgettable season has come to an end at Barcelona, one filled with challenges, defining moments, and valuable lessons, but also marked by significant success and progress under the leadership of German coach Hansi Flick, who guided the team with confidence and consistency in his debut season.
Barcelona is now aiming to strengthen its squad in order to compete for all major titles next season and reclaim its place among Europe’s elite, a feat it has not achieved in a decade.
According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Paris Saint-Germain has renewed its interest in Barcelona’s rising star Fermín López. This approach mirrors several previous attempts by the French club to acquire top talents from the Catalan side, such as Frenkie de Jong, Lamine Yamal, Pedri González, and Ronald Araújo. PSG has also successfully signed former Barcelona stars like Neymar Jr., Lionel Messi, and Ousmane Dembélé.
This time, the French club is targeting Fermín López, who, despite delivering strong performances when given the chance, has not earned the full trust of coach Hansi Flick to start regularly. López has frequently found himself limited to a substitute role, especially following the return of Dani Olmo, which has curtailed his opportunities for consistent play.
Fermín is a highly skilled player with notable goal-scoring ability and a strong defensive work rate, making him a valuable asset on the field. However, Flick believes he is not yet ready to start matches consistently, an assessment that has frustrated the young player, who is eager to secure a more prominent role in the team.
Amid these circumstances, speculation about Fermín’s departure from Barcelona has intensified, particularly given the serious interest from Paris Saint-Germain, reportedly acting on the recommendation of Luis Enrique. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has indicated the club’s readiness to submit an initial offer of €40 million, with performance-based add-ons reaching up to €10 million, in an effort to convince Barcelona to sell the player.
Nevertheless, Barcelona’s management has made it clear that they have no intention of letting Fermín go easily, insisting that any deal must meet the player’s full €500 million release clause, which would be the only way PSG could secure his signature.
It is also worth noting that relations between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have been increasingly strained in recent years, which significantly reduces the chances of a friendly agreement and makes the activation of the release clause the sole viable path for PSG to acquire Fermín López.
