With the season now over, attention is turning to the upcoming summer transfer window, where Real Madrid appears poised to be one of the most prominent contenders. This follows a difficult season during which the team suffered significant injuries that severely hampered its progress.
Real Madrid ended the season empty-handed, having failed to win La Liga or the Copa del Rey and being eliminated in the Champions League quarterfinals by Arsenal.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper Defensa Central, Paris Saint-Germain has shifted its focus to Real Madrid, expressing serious interest in signing Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. This development comes amid growing speculation that Gianluigi Donnarumma may depart the Parc des Princes.
In this context, coach Luis Enrique is directing his attention toward Lunin, who has proven his capabilities through outstanding performances in key matches, despite not being a regular starter due to strong competition from Thibaut Courtois, one of the world’s top goalkeepers.
This situation increases the likelihood that Lunin may choose to pursue a new chapter in his career. However, according to Defensa Central, Real Madrid’s management is not considering entering negotiations with the Parisian club, particularly given the strained relationship between the two sides following the Kylian Mbappé saga.
Within the club, Lunin is held in high regard. He is viewed as a model of discipline and professionalism, both on the field and in training. Despite his limited appearances, his attitude and ability to rise to the occasion have earned him the trust of the coaching staff. One of the clearest examples of this was his decisive penalty save against Manchester City.
Lunin had previously extended his contract with Real Madrid until 2030 — a move that surprised some, who had expected him to leave in search of more regular playing time. Nevertheless, the Ukrainian chose to stay, fully aware of the challenges ahead but confident that his opportunity will eventually arrive.
It is worth noting that Thibaut Courtois’s contract runs until 2026. At 32 years old, questions remain about how the club will manage this position in the coming years. Meanwhile, several clubs — including some in the Saudi Pro League — are reportedly keeping a close eye on the Belgian goalkeeper’s situation.
