After a difficult period with Barcelona, the Catalan club’s outcast, who failed to secure a place in the starting lineup, has announced his departure. He has decided to seek a new opportunity to rebuild his career.
Barcelona is preparing to make changes to its squad, whether by renewing contracts for several current players, allowing others to leave, or bringing in new signings.
According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Mendes discussed the future of Barça player Ansu Fati, who has already decided to leave Barcelona and has identified his next destination.
Fati wants to move to French club AS Monaco, which has expressed interest in him and made it clear to Mendes that signing him is a priority.
The newspaper indicated that Fati is drawn to the team because of its attacking style, strong possession-based approach, and its ability to compete in the Champions League. The best evidence of this is Monaco’s two victories over Barcelona this past season—once in the Joan Gamper Trophy and once in the Champions League.
This decision comes after Fati fell out of favor with coach Hansi Flick, who did not rely on him even during Barcelona’s most difficult periods, including times of injuries and absences. This situation prompted the 22-year-old to make the decision to leave.
The 22-year-old has made 11 appearances for the Catalan club this season across all competitions but has not scored or provided a single assist.
