Despite Real Madrid’s collective disappointment this season due to a dip in form and the absence of silverware, French star Kylian Mbappé managed to steal the spotlight with outstanding individual performances in his debut campaign at the club. Following his long-anticipated move to the Santiago Bernabéu, Mbappé wasted no time in making an impact, scoring 42 goals across all competitions and firmly establishing himself as one of the world’s top strikers.
According to AS, Real Madrid’s management is planning to assign the coveted number 10 shirt to Mbappé next season.
Mbappé joined Real Madrid last summer and initially expressed interest in wearing the number 10 jersey. However, Croatian legend Luka Modrić had just renewed his contract at the time, making it impossible for Mbappé to take the number he previously wore for both the French national team and Paris Saint-Germain.
Now, with Modrić set to leave the club following the Club World Cup, the door is open for Mbappé to claim the number 10 jersey.
The report states that Real Madrid sees this move not only as a gesture to accommodate Mbappé’s preference but also as a valuable marketing opportunity, capitalizing on the change in jersey number.
The final decision, however, rests with Mbappé—whether to stick with the number 9 shirt, which he wore during a prolific debut season, or switch to his iconic number 10.
AS also notes that should Mbappé opt for the number 10, the number 9 shirt would then be assigned to young Brazilian talent Endrick, who is set to join the team soon.
