Real Madrid’s new coach, Spanish Xabi Alonso, is planning a major overhaul in the summer transfer window, according to the German newspaper Bild.
Alonso aims to make radical changes to Real Madrid’s squad to achieve the best possible combination for the upcoming season, in a way that suits his style of play. His goal is to bring Los Blancos back to the top of the table, both domestically and continentally.
In a related development, Real Madrid’s Ukrainian goalkeeper, Andriy Lunin, is considering leaving the club this summer, despite recently renewing his contract with Florentino Pérez until 2030.
The Spanish newspaper AS reported that Lunin is questioning his position within the La Liga runners-up, given that Belgian Thibaut Courtois will remain the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, even after the coaching change and the arrival of Xabi Alonso.
Lunin signed a new contract with Real Madrid, although the 26-year-old goalkeeper was close to leaving at the end of his previous contract in June. The club extended his contract last September and increased his salary, signaling confidence in him. However, this was not enough to make him the number one goalkeeper at the Bernabéu.
The newspaper explained that Lunin is open to leaving Real Madrid if a suitable offer arrives during the summer transfer window, and that Los Blancos would not mind making some profit from his transfer.
Lunin is expected to have opportunities with Real Madrid in the absence of the 32-year-old Courtois, while Turkish club Galatasaray is also interested in acquiring his services, with further interest anticipated after the Club World Cup in the United States.
