Barcelona’s management, headed by Joan Laporta, is aiming to make aggressive moves in the upcoming summer transfer market as part of a comprehensive plan to strengthen the first team and continue the club’s recent rebuilding process. The Catalan club has a clear goal: returning to the top of European football and winning the UEFA Champions League — a title they haven’t lifted since 2015.

Despite the noticeable improvement in performance and results, the management acknowledges that reaching the summit of European football requires significant reinforcements across several positions — whether in defense, midfield, or attack — to provide coach Hansi Flick with all the tools needed to build a squad capable of competing with the continent’s elite and restoring the club’s continental prestige.

Spanish press reports indicate that Barcelona has entered negotiations to sign Ghanaian international Thomas Partey, the Arsenal midfielder.

The 31-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of June, but he has yet to reach a final agreement on an extension with the Gunners, despite public confirmation from Spanish manager Mikel Arteta of his desire to keep the player. The British newspaper The Sun reported that Barcelona’s management has opened talks with Partey’s representatives over a potential free transfer this summer, as the midfielder’s future at the Emirates Stadium remains uncertain.

The Sun also noted that the experienced player is viewed as a cost-effective option to strengthen Barcelona’s midfield, with German coach Hansi Flick being a known admirer of the former Atlético Madrid star.

The report added that Partey prefers to stay at the London club, particularly given his strong relationship with Arteta. However, the Ghanaian midfielder is seeking to renew his contract without a significant reduction in salary, knowing this may be the last major deal of his career.

The Sun also revealed that Partey has attracted interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

The Ghanaian star joined Arsenal in the summer of 2020 for £45 million from Atlético Madrid.

However, his time at the London club has been hampered by frequent injuries.
