In an unusual move within the club’s hierarchy, Florentino Pérez has personally taken the initiative to renew the contract of one of the team’s cornerstones—despite the player being over thirty years old. This decision reflects the deep appreciation the president holds for the player’s contributions to Los Blancos’ successes in recent years.
It’s a clear indication of the player’s status within the club and serves as a reminder that, at Real Madrid, dedication and discipline can outweigh age.
In this context, Real Madrid is set to reward its Belgian star, Thibaut Courtois, with a new contract following his impressive performances for the club, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Courtois is currently under contract with Real Madrid until the end of June 2026, having signed a five-year extension in August 2021. The club now intends to renew his deal once again this coming July.
Romano reports that Real Madrid will present a new offer to Courtois starting July 1st, aiming to finalize an extension this summer. The club is highly satisfied with the goalkeeper’s level of performance and commitment, even after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury. The Merengues are reportedly willing to break their usual policy of not renewing contracts for players over 30 in order to keep Courtois.
At 33 years old, Courtois may sign a two-year extension, which would keep him at the club until June 2028.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid is expected to maintain his current annual salary under the new deal, despite him being one of the highest-paid players at the Santiago Bernabéu, earning approximately €15 million per year. This would mark yet another exception to the club’s traditional stance on aging players.
