Real Madrid’s new coach, Xabi Alonso, received an official setback when River Plate announced Franco Mastrantuono’s inclusion in their squad for the Club World Cup in the United States.
Alonso had hoped that Real Madrid would successfully complete the signing of Mastrantuono and secure his availability for the tournament. However, the issue was that the player is not yet of legal age, preventing Los Blancos from fulfilling Alonso’s request. The matter was settled once River Plate confirmed the player’s call-up for the competition.

Real Madrid is expected to finalize the deal to make Mastrantuono available for the team in the new season, with the player becoming legally eligible for transfer starting in mid-August, when he turns 18.

River Plate is placed in a group that includes Inter Milan (Italy), Monterrey (Mexico), and Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan) in the Club World Cup. The Argentine side will begin its campaign next Tuesday against Urawa Red Diamonds.

In the second round, River Plate will face Monterrey before concluding the group stage with a match against the UEFA Champions League runner-up.
