Florentino Pérez and Xabi Alonso are actively working to reshape Real Madrid’s squad for next season, with a clear focus on reinforcing weak or underperforming areas and offloading players who do not meet the club’s standards and ambitions.
According to the Spanish newspaper Don Balón, part of this strategic overhaul includes multiple defensive reinforcements, as the backline has been under significant pressure. Following a joint technical and administrative review, the president and head coach have reportedly agreed to part ways with current left-back Fran García. The likelihood of his continued presence at the Santiago Bernabéu appears slim—especially if the club succeeds in securing its current transfer target.
Real Madrid is nearing a deal to sign Álvaro Carreras, who is expected to take over the starting left-back role under Xabi Alonso. However, his official arrival may be postponed until after the FIFA Club World Cup. This means Fran García could have one final opportunity to feature in the tournament before likely departing the team once it’s concluded.
With the anticipated arrival of the Benfica defender and the continued presence of Ferland Mendy—who is set to serve as the primary backup—Fran García is unlikely to retain a spot in the first team. His performances so far have not met expectations, failing to justify his long-term inclusion in the squad.
Real Madrid’s sporting management plans to offload the player to a Premier League club, leveraging both his solid reputation in the market and the substantial financial resources available to English clubs, which are known for making major investments during transfer windows. The post-Club World Cup period is expected to see a surge in market activity, potentially providing Real Madrid with an ideal opportunity to finalize the player’s departure.
