Real Madrid’s new coach, Xabi Alonso, has issued a strong warning to the team’s stars ahead of the start of the 2025–26 season.
Alonso is implementing strict rules to maintain discipline among the Merengue squad and ensure the success of his new managerial project.
According to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, Alonso has informed all players that any individual who fails to run and press will not be allowed to play—regardless of their name or status within the team.
Sources within the club confirmed that Alonso will not tolerate any player who does not fulfill their responsibilities, with particular reference to the high-profile duo of Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior.
The young coach is expected to issue a warning upon a player’s first violation, but will not hesitate to drop them from the starting lineup if the behavior is repeated.
Real Madrid’s stars—especially Mbappé and Vinícius—will need to fully adhere to Alonso’s tactical demands and show complete defensive commitment to avoid conflict with their new manager.
Los Blancos are currently preparing for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, hosted by the United States.
Real Madrid will kick off their tournament campaign on Wednesday, June 18, against Saudi side Al-Hilal. Their group also includes Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg and Mexico’s Pachuca.
