As Barcelona prepare for a critical summer of decisions and potential exits, questions are quietly swirling around the future of a high-profile figure in their backline. Whispers of interest from Europe’s elite have only added fuel to the uncertainty, while criticism from within the club’s own fanbase hasn’t helped.
At the heart of this growing speculation is a player who has long been viewed as untouchable—yet whose recent season left many unconvinced.
Ronald Araújo, once considered the defensive cornerstone of the team, endured a turbulent 2024/25 campaign. A long-term injury sidelined him for much of the first half of the season. When he returned, his performances were met with scrutiny, and many supporters pointed to him as a factor in Barcelona’s Champions League exit.
But behind the scenes, the mood appears very different.
According to sources close to the club, both head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco remain of the Uruguayan international. Far from planning an exit, the club views Araújo as a long-term pillar of the project.
In fact, Flick is said to regard the 26-year-old as “one of the best defenders in the world.” Despite a rocky stretch, there appears to be no intention of letting go of a player still seen as vital to Barcelona’s ambitions.
