After the failure of the Nico Williams deal, Barcelona’s management received a strong surprise from young star Pedri, who sent a decisive message to the club’s decision-makers about a specific player he considers the ideal solution to compensate for the failed signing. This unexpected name sparked widespread debate among Blaugrana fans, as he is seen as a potential game-changer for Hansi Flick’s project.

The potential player is Xavi Simons, who came through La Masia and had a strong connection with the club before moving to Paris Saint-Germain, where he emerged as one of Europe’s most promising young talents. Pedri believes Simons’ return could add a unique technical and creative dimension to Barcelona’s midfield, especially given his leadership qualities despite his young age.

This idea is supported by a number of young players within the squad, including Alejandro Balde — a close friend of Simons — as well as Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez, who are eagerly anticipating the player’s arrival to strengthen the team.

However, the biggest obstacles remain financial and positional. Leipzig is reportedly demanding around €70 million — a figure Barcelona cannot afford without a major sale, such as the departure of Araujo or Ter Stegen. Moreover, Flick prefers a fast and dynamic winger, while Simons typically plays as a playmaker or attacking midfielder, adding another layer of complexity to the deal.

If an agreement is reached, Xavi Simons would represent a strategic addition to Flick’s project of building an ambitious, youth-driven team featuring players such as Balde, Lamine, Fermín, and Juan García. Pedri believes this move could revitalize Barcelona’s midfield and align with the vision the German coach aims to implement next season.
