Despite the start of preparations for the new season under Hansi Flick, there is a sense of anxiety within the Camp Nou offices as interest in a particular player grows. He is no longer just a “star project” but a prime target for several major European clubs, with the club’s management yet to make a final decision on his future.
Although things appear calm on the surface, within the Catalan club, there is a growing awareness that retaining this player will not be easy.
The player in question is Fermín López, who has become the focus of attention from heavyweight clubs such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Bayer Leverkusen, in addition to clear Saudi interest.
But the biggest surprise came from Paris Saint-Germain, where Luis Enrique has listed him among his primary targets for the current transfer window, assuring club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he would be the missing piece in his project to dominate Europe.
According to French and Spanish sources, Enrique sees Fermín as the ideal player to implement his philosophy in midfield, especially given his ability to move off the ball, penetrate, and press high.
Despite this growing interest, Hansi Flick has clearly informed the Catalan club that the player represents a tactical asset that cannot be easily dispensed with.
The challenge, however, lies in the player’s desire. With the 2026 World Cup just around the corner, Fermín does not want to be left out of coach Luis de la Fuente’s plans, which is pushing him to be very realistic about his future.
Barcelona’s management is aware that the situation could escalate, especially if the player officially requests to leave. But they have made up their minds:
The initial price for discussion is no less than €80 million.
Fermín’s contract runs until 2030, so there is no intention of selling him unless an “unreasonable” offer is received.
Paris’ management has made no secret of their serious desire to negotiate, but the tense relationship between Laporta and Al-Khelaifi, coupled with Deco’s reservations, could hinder any potential deal at this time.
The player is currently at a pivotal moment in his career. Barcelona is holding firm, Paris is adamant, and the player is caught in the middle, between the opportunity to prove himself at Camp Nou or a new experience in the UEFA Champions League.
