With the Club World Cup over, the eyes of top players are quietly turning to the next stage of their careers. At the forefront is one of Real Madrid’s men who wrote a long chapter in the history of the white shirt: Lucas Vázquez.
But the real surprise isn’t just his farewell to Los Blancos, but the unexpected new destination his name has been linked to in recent hours. This move could reunite him with a familiar face within the White House.
With his contract officially ending with Real Madrid, Lucas Vázquez is a free agent for the first time in years, opening the door to several possible scenarios. One of these scenarios has emerged from Brazil, where new Botafogo coach Davide Ancelotti is seeking to build a strong and integrated project, with Vázquez at the top of his list of priorities.
According to Defensa Central, Ancelotti Jr. has already contacted the player in an attempt to bring him to Botafogo, capitalizing on the strong relationship they shared during his time as his father Carlo’s assistant at Real Madrid.
Despite his high regard for Davide Ancelotti, Lucas is not currently considering a move to South America. He aspires to remain in Europe for at least two more seasons and believes the time has not yet come for a new experience outside the continent.
The 32-year-old has already begun considering several European offers since Real Madrid’s participation in the Club World Cup, which was his final appearance for the club after a trophy-laden career.
In a touching message, Xabi Alonso spoke about Vázquez and Modric, saying:
“It wasn’t the ending I wanted for them, but it won’t change anything about what they have achieved. I will always be grateful to these two men.”
With Luka Modric officially joining Milan, Vázquez’s fate will also be decided in the coming weeks. It’s not yet clear whether his next destination will be Italy, England, or perhaps another unexpected surprise.
