Real Madrid is preparing for its first match of the 2025/26 La Liga season, as it hosts Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday evening.
Despite being included in the squad, Austrian defender David Alaba is not expected to feature in the match, as he continues working towards full fitness following his return from injury.
Although Alaba appeared in Los Blancos’ only warm-up match against Austrian side Tirol, his participation in official matches will likely depend on injury situations and the overall fitness of the squad, particularly since coach Xabi Alonso prefers a stable lineup based on the most physically prepared midfielders.
Following the friendly, Alaba spoke about his condition, saying:
“I feel much better. I’m at home, and everything was great. I played in a different position, but it’s not new to me. I think I’m in excellent physical condition and almost 100% ready.”
Despite these positive remarks, reports from Defensa Central indicate that Real Madrid’s management is entirely open to the idea of selling Alaba this summer, particularly due to his high salary, which ranks among the highest at the club.
According to sources, Real Madrid officials have informed the player’s agent that they would not stand in his way if a suitable offer arrives from a Saudi club. This is especially true if the offer meets the club’s financial expectations and helps reduce the wage bill, given that Alaba’s contract runs until June 2026.
If a Saudi club were to submit an offer that doubles or triples Alaba’s current salary, the Spanish giants would reportedly be fully prepared to facilitate the deal without any obstacles.
Despite these developments, Alaba does not appear to be seriously considering a departure. So far, he has clearly expressed his intention to remain with the club until the end of his contract. However, any changes during the final days of the summer transfer window could prompt him to reconsider, especially if the offer comes from a club with a clear and financially attractive sporting project.
