Álvaro Arbeloa has taken over at Real Madrid with an approach similar to Xabi Alonso’s, retaining many of the ideas and tactics the players were familiar with from their time under Alonso at Real Madrid, Liverpool, and the Spanish national team. Arbeloa intends to continue including several players who have traditionally played secondary roles, maintaining the established hierarchy in the dressing room and the club’s system.
Some players will benefit from this continuity, while others, such as Fran García, are expected to remain limited in their opportunities.
García joined Real Madrid over two years ago as one of the most promising talents in the left-back position, having impressed at Rayo Vallecano. However, he has struggled to secure a regular starting spot, falling behind Ferland Mendy in the pecking order. Under Ancelotti, his chances were limited, and although he hoped to prove himself with Alonso’s arrival, he was unable to establish himself before the club signed Álvaro Carreras.
This season, García has seen very little playing time, and when given opportunities, his performances have been unconvincing. According to press reports, Arbeloa does not plan to give him a leadership role, and he is included among the players who may be allowed to leave.
