Shock at Barcelona.. Hansi Flick excludes the team’s star after the Wanda disaster

Barcelona suffered a humiliating defeat against Atlético Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, with the home side leading 4-0 at halftime in one of the Catalan team’s worst 45-minute performances this season.

The team appeared to have no clear identity, and Atlético dominated them in every aspect, from defensive organization to attacking transitions, leaving Barcelona in a very difficult position ahead of the second leg.

Flick Under Fire

German coach Hansi Flick faced heavy criticism for his starting lineup choices, particularly his decision to make an early substitution in the first half, replacing Marc Casado with Robert Lewandowski.

The move sparked widespread controversy in the Spanish media, with journalist Cristóbal Soria pointing out on the El Chiringuito program that Casado celebrated one of the goals from the Atlético bench,a scene that raised many questions.

According to Spanish press reports, Flick is considering keeping Casado out of the starting lineup for the rest of the season, given his declining form and the coaching staff’s lack of confidence in his performances in crucial matches.

Frustration and Anger in the Studio

The heavy defeat was also reflected in the media atmosphere, with journalist José Álvarez storming out of the studio after what he described as a humiliating performance. He asserted that Barcelona lacked character in the semi-final of a competition as important as the Copa del Rey.

The result has dashed the team’s hopes of reaching the final at La Cartuja Stadium, especially after Diego Simeone’s team’s dominant first-half performance.

Can Barcelona Stage a Comeback at Camp Nou?

Despite the harshness of the result, Barcelona still has the second leg at Camp Nou, where they will try to get back on track and salvage their season from another setback.

But the reality is that Atlético delivered a near-perfect tactical performance, and those 45 minutes will remain etched in the minds of their fans for years, while Flick is now required to provide a strong response that restores confidence to the Blaugrana fans before it is too late.
