The future of several Real Madrid stars for next season remains uncertain, most notably Austrian David Alaba, whose contract expires at the end of the season and who appears unlikely to continue with the team, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Romano confirmed that Alaba will be among the players leaving the Santiago Bernabéu and will be free to negotiate with any other club during the summer transfer window, as he considers several options before deciding on his next destination.
Arbeloa Gives Alaba a Chance… But the End Is Decided
Despite Alaba’s increased playing time following the arrival of Álvaro Arbeloa, Real Madrid does not intend to renew his contract. His appearances have increased significantly compared to the days under Xabi Alonso, but he is still considered a backup option, with limited minutes against clubs like Albacete, Rayo Vallecano, and Real Sociedad.
The club believes Alaba’s time at the Bernabéu has come to an end and is satisfied with his contributions, giving the player the freedom to choose the most suitable destination for himself.
Real Madrid Plans for the Future of Defense
The club’s management is searching for a new center-back capable of securing a starting spot for years to come, complementing Éder Militão and Antonio Rüdiger. Meanwhile, the contract extensions of Aurelien Hoesen and Raúl Asensio have been confirmed. Rüdiger’s future remains uncertain and will be closely monitored in the coming period.
Alaba’s departure opens the door to major changes in Real Madrid’s defense and is considered the first surprise of the summer transfer window for Los Blancos, with the club preparing for further moves that could shake up the squad before the start of the new season.
