Leaving Barcelona remains a risky decision. While some players have successfully built strong careers away from Camp Nou before returning, others have failed to replicate that experience, and their performance has declined outside the Catalan club.
The most recent case involves young striker Marc Guillou, who decided to join Chelsea despite Barcelona’s management believing he could be a reliable replacement for Robert Lewandowski and his long-term successor. Joan Laporta and Deco were in advanced negotiations to renew his contract before being surprised by his acceptance of a better financial offer from the English club.
Barcelona’s management did not understand the decision of the striker, born in 2006, especially given the intense competition at Stamford Bridge,a fact later confirmed by subsequent events. The player faced instability at Chelsea due to frequent managerial changes and numerous new signings, which limited his playing time and prevented him from securing a regular spot in the team.
According to English press reports, Guillou regrets leaving Barcelona, especially since the Catalan team is struggling offensively and he could have played a significant role under Hansi Flick.
However, the issue lies with the current administration’s stance. Reports indicate that Laporta and Deco have closed the door on his return, deeming his departure at the time unjustified.
This story confirms that leaving Barcelona may seem like a financially attractive opportunity, but it does not always guarantee sporting success or professional stability.
