Paris Saint-Germain remains keen on Barcelona star Eric Garcia, having attempted in recent months to block the renewal of his contract, which was set to expire on June 30th, before the Catalan club secured him with a long-term deal.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi hasn’t forgotten the player, especially after he became one of the most frequently used players under Hansi Flick, silencing his critics with an exceptional season that redeemed him.
Just a year ago, his future was highly uncertain, and in January 2025, he received official offers from Villarreal, Real Sociedad, and Real Betis. The Joan Laporta-Deco administration was open to selling him. However, the player’s decision to stay and fight for his place changed everything, particularly after he capitalized on his teammates’ injuries to secure a starting position.
Today, Garcia is a versatile player for the team, whether at center-back, right-back, or even in midfield. This has made him a strong candidate to return to Luis de la Fuente’s plans ahead of the 2026 World Cup, after an absence of more than three years from the Spanish national team.
Former national team coach Luis Enrique is also pressing Paris Saint-Germain to bring him back, and according to L’Équipe, the French club is prepared to make a substantial offer of up to €55 million.
But despite the tempting figure, Barcelona’s position is clear: Eric Garcia is not for sale. His departure will only be considered if his astronomical €400 million release clause is met.
With relations between the two clubs strained, the deal seems more like a battle of wills… Will this summer witness another clash between Camp Nou and Paris Saint-Germain?
